Bishop Robert to support new Brixham sponsored ‘crawl’ for Christian Aid Week
Young families will be joined by Bishop Robert at the end of Brixham’s inaugural sponsored ‘Church Crawl’ on Sunday 7 May.
The Church Crawl is the brainchild of youth leaders from three different Brixham churches – Kim Grant of All Saints’ Church, Sharon Huxley of Brixham Community Church and Maria Orton of Brixham Baptist Church – who wanted to create a fun new fundraiser for young children and their families.
While other sponsored walks might cover great distances, Sunday’s walk will be just one mile for little legs, starting from All Saints’ Church and ending at St Mary’s Church, running from 9.30am to 12 midday when Bishop Robert will meet walkers at St Mary’s.
The walk will launch Christian Aid Week (www.caweek.org) which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary and runs from 14 – 20 May highlighting the plight of the world’s 65 million refugees and displaced people.
Christian Aid local organiser Mary Fallon who devised the event with Kim, Sharon and Maria, said: “Christian Aid Week was set up 60 years ago to support our work with refugees in Europe following the Second World War.
“It is poignant that here we are in 2017 witnessing helpless people in their thousands who are stranded in European countries, barely daring to hope for a better future.”
In addition to the Church Crawl there will be a drop-in Coffee and Lunch at the Christian Community Centre on Saturday May 13 May and Saturday 20 May 10am-2pm as well as a Sponsored Silence on May 18. A Christian Aid Week Service will be held in the Baptist Church on Sunday 14 May at 6.30pm.
