CAPTION: Pupils reading the donated books from our diocese

Donated books arrive in the Solomon Islands

Students enjoy their new books

School children in the Solomon Islands have just taken delivery of books donated from the Diocese of Exeter. The Norman Palmer School located just outside of Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, is linked with Feniton and Tipton Church of England Primary Schools. Twice a year books collected by pupils at Feniton and Tipton, along with other books donated from across our diocese, are sent to the Norman Palmer School.

Since the partnership began in 2012, a new library has been built at the Norman Palmer School and teachers have visited and taught in each other’s schools.

The Diocese of Exeter has a historic link to the Province of Melanesia, as their first Bishop John Coleridge Patteson grew up in Devon, was ordained at Exeter Cathedral and was curate in the East Devon village of Alfington.
