Time: 7.30pm (Sunday 3pm)

A Passion Play with a difference is being performed in St Mary’s Church, Whimple. The four performances of Christ in the Concrete City by Community Theatre 4All are taking place on 24-28 March, with all performances at 7.30pm, apart from Sunday when it’s at 3pm.
Described by A. Edyvean in his book His Dramatic World as ‘the most significant passion play of our time,’ it was written in post Second World War Great Britain.
Director of Community Theatre 4All Tom Samson explains that the play was written by his uncle “in the early 1950s while living and working as a young curate in the depressed inner-city conditions of a very run-down parish in Leeds.” Tom’s uncle went on to write children’s novels, winning a Carnegie Award for children’s literature in 1965.
