Chair of the Board of Governors – Plymouth Marjon University

Closing date for applications: 12th May 2017

Applications are invited for the role of Chair of the Board of Governors of Plymouth Marjon University. Founded in 1838 as England’s first teacher training college, the University now delivers education, research and innovation across a growing range of subjects, with renowned centres of excellence in health and well-being, teacher education and sport.

Plymouth Marjon University has been a highly regarded provider of specialist education since its inception in 1838 and is situated on an attractive single campus close to the beautiful South West coast of Devon and Cornwall, the City of Plymouth and Dartmoor National Park. The University enjoys an excellent reputation for providing an outstanding and professionally oriented student experience informed by research and innovation and leading to high levels of employability.

A new Chair is sought to lead the Board of Governors and to work closely with the University’s Vice Chancellor and the Executive to ensure they achieve the two major goals of the strategic plan: increasing academic reputation and ensuring financial sustainability. The Chair will be an accomplished leader with significant Board-level experience, acute strategic and financial awareness and the ability to steward the University through a period of transition in a challenging economic climate for global higher education and where the sector is increasingly crowded, competitive and commercialised.

Plymouth Marjon University is an Anglican Foundation University and the Chair will be expected to embrace the values of the University and to work in accordance with accepted standards in Public Life and the Committee of University Chairs’ new Higher Education Code of Governance.

If you believe that you can add real value to the strategic development of Marjon, working closely with the Board and the Vice Chancellor, and are able to commit up to 40 days per year then we should be delighted to hear from you.–management/university-board-of-governors/
