Torbay – Vicar of Christ Church, Paignton & St Paul, Preston

Closing date for applications: 23rd March 2017

Interview date: 5th & 6th April 2017

The seaside town of Paignton on the beautiful ‘English Riviera’ offers exceptional opportunities for church growth and service in a community where prosperity and deprivation sit side by side.

The church traditions are complementary—open evangelical at St Paul’s, conservative evangelical at Christ Church.  St Paul’s employs a part-time families worker and Christ Church has a growing programme of work with young people.  Priorities are:

  • a clear expository ministry of preaching and teaching
  • encouraging the gifts of lay people for discipleship and ministry
  • development of work among young families and young people

The patrons (the Bishop of Exeter and the Peache Trustees) seek to appoint a male priest who is able to support and share fully in the ministry of women colleagues at St Paul’s, lay and ordained, while encouraging Christ Church in its more conservative ethos and enabling an outward focus in both places.

The comfortable Vicarage adjacent to St Paul’s has outstanding views across the Bay.  Road and rail links from Torbay are good.

For an informal conversation, please contact the Ven Douglas Dettmer.

The appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.
