August 2015

Sat 1st August

1. Please pray for all those in our diocese who work to promote and uphold our diverse foreign links.

Sun 2nd – Sat 8th August
If you have a visitor book, pray for all those who have come to your church and thank God for all those who will visit this summer: That they may experience God in the visit.

2. Please pray for the Wolborough and Ogwell Benefice,currently in vacancy, Readers Keith Butler and Jeremy Howell and the congregations at St Bartholomew, Ogwell, St Mary, Wolborough and St Paul in Newton Abbot.
3. Please pray for Netherexe Parishes Mission Community, currently in vacancy, Revd Sue Sheppard and the congregations at the Church of Our Lady, Upton Pyne, St Thomas of Canterbury, Thorverton, St Mary Magdalene, Stoke Canon, St Mary the Virgin and St John the Baptist in Netherexe, St Mary the Virgin, Poltimore with Huxham, St Cyr & St Julitta, Newton St Cyres, St Anthony, Cowley, St Michael and All Angels, Cadbury, and St Peter, Bramford Speke.
4. In our link Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf, please pray for the communications team and for good communications in and from the Body of Christ.
5. Please pray for the Archdeacon of Exeter the Venerable Christopher Futcher and his PA Peter Colebrook.
6. The Collect for the feast of the Transfiguration: 
Father in heaven,
whose Son Jesus Christ was wonderfully transfigured
before chosen witnesses upon the holy mountain,
and spoke of the exodus he would accomplish at Jerusalem:
give us strength so to hear his voice and bear our cross
that in the world to come we may see him as he is;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. 
7. Pray for the Hartland Deanery, Rural Dean Andrew Richardson, Lay Chair Anne Irwin, secretary Sylvia West and Treasurer Paul Dean.
8. Please pray for all those leading and taking part in the Interfaith Ceremony of Remembrance at the Peace Tree on Southernhay West in Exeter to mark the 70th commemoration of Hiroshima Memorial Day.

Sun 9th – Sat 15th August
This week spend time thinking about God’s world. How can everyone flourish and God’s creation be protected amid problems such as over-consumption and inequality? Grapple with these issues in prayer.

10. Hold in prayer Penny Hamilton chaplain at Bideford and Great Torrington Community Hospitals.
11. Please pray for Ven Joyce Kabuba and the clergy and people of Ruiru Archdeaconry in our link Diocese of Thika.
12. On International Youth Day pray for young people everywhere, that they would have the things they need to thrive.
13. Today, hold in prayer the North Creedy (East) Mission Community, currently in vacancy, their clergy Kingsley Cross and the congregations at St Mary, Woolfardisworthy East, St Peter, Washford Pyne, St Mary the Virgin, Stockleigh Pomeroy, St Mary the Virgin, Stockleigh English, St Thomas A Beckett, Puddington, St Michael and All Angels, Poughill, St John the Baptist, Kennerleigh and St Matthew, Cheriton Fitzpaine.
14. Please pray for Bradninch and Plymtree and the congregations at St Disen, Bradninch and St John the Baptist, Plymtree.
15. On this day marking VJ Day pray for all those leading and taking part in events in London and elsewhere. Bring before God all those who served and still serve in the Armed Forces. Remember especially the veterans, prisoners of war and civilian internees as they mark this historic 70th anniversary commemorating the end of the war in the Pacific.

This week pray for all the young people at Soul Survivor in Somerset: That they may fun and enjoy worship and learning that brings them into a closer relationship with God.

16. In Melanesia, we pray for the diocese of Isabel and for its Bishop, the Rt Revd Richard Naramana who retires in October.

18. Today hold in prayer the Tiverton and Cullompton Deanery, their Lay Chair and secretary Simon Friend and treasurer Ginny Metherell, and their former Rural Dean Barry Dugmore as he takes up his new role as Mission Enabler this month, and his successor (to be announced). 
19. Pray today for the North Devon Coast Mission Community, currently in vacancy their clergy Jean Loveday and the congregations at St Peter, Trentishoe, Christ Church, Parracombe, St Martin, Martinhoe, St Mary the Virgin, Lynton, St Bartholomew, Barbrook, St John the Evangelist. 20. Hold in prayer the North Kenn Team Mission Community, their clergy Martin Wood and the congregations at St Catherine, St Thomas & Pathfinder: St John the Evangelist, Whitestone with Oldridge, St Mary, Cheriton Bishop, St Mary, Tedburn St Mary, and St John the Baptist, Holcombe Burnell.
21. Pray for your local clergy team and for all those who lead worship in your local churches.
22. Please pray for the Northam & Appledore Mission Community, their clergy Ian Lovett David Carrington & Sandra Juniper, the Readers Deborah Bayliss, Glen Yeo, Nigel Price, Jonathan Ellis & Anne Foster and for the congregations at St Margaret, Bideford, Holy Trinity, Westward Ho and St Mary, Appledore.

This week pray for all traders around the diocese that they may earn enough in the tourist season to sustain them through the rest of the year. Also pray for all involved, leaders and traders in Exeter, as they prepare for the launch of the Exeter Pound on 1st September. 

23. On Slave Memorial Day pray for an end to the exploitation of human beings for profit in its many forms. Pray for support agencies and police in their work, that they would get the support and resources they need to address the horrors of modern slavery.
24. 30. Please pray for the parish of Christ Church Ellacombe, their priest-in-charge and pioneer priest Paul Ireton and the congregation at Christ Church Ellacombe.
31. On this Bank Holiday pray for rest and renewal for all those involved in ministry in your local area.
