Exploring Faith

We all grapple with the fundamental questions of life at some point in our lives. It can be hard to know where to look for help and support as you think through these questions. But often it can be helpful to explore your faith and ask questions alongside others who are on the same journey.

Our churches frequently run helpful courses and groups, in low key, relaxed and friendly ways, very different to the formality of Sunday services. You can meet with others, discuss issues and questions of faith and you won’t sing hymns or have to know how to act in church! Below you will find out more about courses you can attend to help you in exploring faith.

Alpha

The Alpha course is open to everyone. It is a safe place to come and ask the questions that really matter. No previous special knowledge of Christianity or the Bible is needed and there is no hymn singing. There’s usually an informal meal and relaxed group discussions where you can join in or just listen. While the autumn is a key time for many courses to start, in some areas they are run throughout the year.

All over Devon Alpha courses welcome the curious, the sceptical and the uncertain. As many as 150 courses are run in different locations across Devon including Barnstaple, Exeter, Plymouth and Torquay. There are also Youth Alphas happening across the county.

Christianity Explored

Christianity Explored is a course open to anyone who wants to investigate the facts about Christian faith or brush up on the basics. It focuses on the Gospel of Mark and explores who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him.

You won’t be asked to pray, sing or read aloud, but you can ask any questions you like. Christianity Explored has been around for over a decade now, and is designed to suit different age ranges and people.
