CPRE Devon announces winners of its first competition to find Devon’s Best Churchyard

The parish church of South Tawton, on the northern edge of Dartmoor, has taken the prize as Devon’s Best Churchyard of 2018, in a competition organised by the Devon branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England. Many people in our communities have or are experiencing domestic abuse. Research shows that abuse amongst those involved with the church is as prevalent as other parts of our communities and sadly, there is evidence of churches failing to respond well to victims and survivors. An “outstanding vicar” from the Diocese of Exeter has been appointed as the next Archdeacon of Gloucester. The Revd Preb Hilary Dawson, Rector of Holyford Mission Community based in Colyford, is to take up the role made vacant when the former archdeacon, Jackie Searle, was made Bishop of Crediton. THE global Thy Kingdom Come prayer movement begins next week and there will be launch events in Devon with Bishop Robert and Bishop Nick.
