Community Sponsorship of Refugees

Date: 14th June 2021 - 20th June 2021

Community Sponsorship of Refugees is a resettlement programme enabling us to welcome a refugee family to our neighbourhood and support them as they settle in to their new life in the UK.
When the programme launched in 2016, the Archbishop of Canterbury welcomed a refugee family to live in Lambeth Palace. Since then, CofE parishes have been at the heart of the Community Sponsorship movement, with many already in Devon such as Ottery’s Abide project. As their project lead says, “Welcoming the stranger is a theme that runs throughout the Bible’s teaching. Getting involved in Community Sponsorship takes a big step of faith for most churches but it gives us a wonderful opportunity to put our faith into action. Living as followers of Jesus should be an adventure!”

Many more projects are urgently needed. As part of Refugee Week (14-20 June), Reset (the charity that trains Community Sponsors across the UK) are putting on a series of webinars, including one with Archbishop Justin and people who’ve experienced the transformative power and positivity of Community Sponsorship first hand – both Syrian families and their host communities. If interested, please sign up to that webinar on 17th June 6pm; and get an overview beforehand in this brilliant short animation!
