Seed Saving Kiosk from Exeter Seed Bank
Date: 3rd September 2021 - 24th September 2021
Venue: Exeter Cathedral
Exeter Seed Bank shares knowledge about seed saving, an ancient craft that is reviving in the face of our diminishing seed diversity. Our aim is to create a seed bank that works for our area’s soils in the face of biodiversity loss and climate change.
The seeds we aim to collect and distribute are organic, heirloom or heritage flowers and vegetables; and wildflower mixes to increase the presence of pollinators in our environment.
We are now in seed saving season. There is information on the kiosk displayed at the Cathedral about basic seed saving. If you have seeds to share, please let us know by emailing us on firstname.lastname@example.org. All seeds will be distributed free from March 2022 onwards.
Perhaps no flower exemplifies Nature’s abundance more than the sunflower. Just one sunflower head can produce 800 – 1000 seeds! Pick up a free packet of mixed sunflower seeds at the kiosk for planting in Spring.
Exhibition panels near the kiosk tell stories from the Storied Seed Bank, a growing collection of short oral stories of people’s relationship to seeds. Use the QR code link and have a listen in. If you have a story to share, get in touch and we will add it to the archive.
