Anna Chaplains

Anna Chaplaincy is a ministry undertaken by volunteers in communities to provide support to older people in their own homes, sheltered housing or care homes.

Annie Jefferies leads the Anna Chaplaincy team in Devon

Anna chaplains are named after Anna, the prophetess, in the Bible (Luke 2).

Anna Chaplaincy is overseen by the Bible Reading Fellowship.

It says “Anna Chaplains are named after the widow, Anna, who appears with Simeon in Luke’s gospel; both are good role models of faithful older people. Anna Chaplains are there for people of strong, little or no faith at all.

”Our vision is to see an Anna Chaplain in every small- and medium-sized community in the country, and for the Anna Chaplain name to become synonymous with spiritual care for older people.”

In the Diocese of Exeter, the ministry is overseen by Annie Jefferies, who is an Anna Chaplain herself and Dr Jon Curtis, the Diocesan Lay Discipleship Advisor.

The ministry is part of our commitment to serve people over 60.
