A self-supporting parish priest from Devon has been appointed as the first ever National Officer for Self-Supporting Ordained Ministry. The Reverend John Lees works is based in Colyton in East Devon and is the Bishop’s Officer for Self-Supporting Ministry (SSM) in the Diocese of Exeter. Exeter Cathedral Choir has filmed a special singalong Carol Service for people to join in at home across Devon and beyond. It is also hoped that churches and other organisations, like care homes, prisons, schools and hospitals, will show the service in a year in which normal carol services will not be possible in some places. Churches in East Devon are planning a Covid-safe car park Carol Service in a supermarket carpark. The service is taking place at Tesco’s in Axminster at 4.30pm on Sunday 13 December. People are being invited to come in cars or on foot to “sing their hearts out” in a socially-distanced way. A church community in West Devon has organised a special Covid-safe Christmas celebration for residents of two local care homes.
