Queen’s Green Canopy: Plant a Tree for the Jubilee

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. It invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

Everyone from individuals to Scout and Girl guiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and churches is being encouraged to play their part to enhance the environment by planting trees.

The Diocese of Exeter is encouraging every church to consider planting a tree in its churchyard in 2022.

People are being encouraged to plant trees to create a ‘green canopy’ for the Jubilee

We have 100 tree saplings to give away on a first come first served basis. Please email the Archdeacon of Exeter’s office email to request a tree (putting Queen’s Green Canopy in the title).

Some communities are planning a tree planting service as part of the Jubilee weekend celebrations on Sunday 5 June. Download prayers and liturgy.

Plant a Tree for the Jubilee also presents some brilliant opportunities to get people involved with their local church and churchyard by bringing your community together: from tree trails to foraging; from den building to bulb planting…Download ideas here.

To plant a tree in a churchyard the church PCC will need to agree it and minute it. Churches will then need to apply for permission using the online faculty system (list B). Find all the information you need here

If you have already planted a tree, please apply for a simple retrospective List B Permission so we have a record of all the jubilee trees planted across the Diocese.

Please contact our Social Justice and Creation Care Advisor Lydia Perris email for more details or to share stories and photos of your planting!
