Equality and Diversity
More than 60 languages are spoken in our Devon schools. However over 70% of our minority ethnic population live in rural areas where they have few opportunities to meet with co-ethnic friends or family, or others with similar experiences.
This means that racial isolation is a particular rural problem in Devon – isolation not just from friendship but from services and support networks. Yet many of us are descendants of people who moved counties even countries in the past.
Churches Together in Britain and Ireland have announced that Racial Justice Sunday is to move from the 2nd Sunday in September to the 2nd Sunday of February. For many churches this is a useful focus to help us celebrate the diversity with which God is enriching the church in Devon. Racial Justice Sunday is on 12 February 2017.
