Quiet Day Resource

One of our Readers, Richard Frost, has put together 3 films which could be used to provide a basic structure for a personal Quiet Day. The topic is ‘Finding Stability in Times of Change’ and can be viewed here.

Thoughts on trauma

Read this reflection on trauma in society and the need to be understanding to others and kind to ourselves. The Well-Being and Pastoral Care Advisory Panel have also shared their experiences since lockdown; what has helped them to cope and what they have learnt along the way. Read them here

Help for young people

The Children’s Society have helpful advice and resources for young people during lockdown. These include coping with feelings of loneliness, anxiety, depression and the stress of feeling trapped at home.

Livewell South West have set up a 24/7 urgent mental health advice line that will enable young people, families, carers and professionals in Plymouth to access support during this lockdown period. It can help if your child is experiencing anxiety, stress or emotional distress. The telephone line will be covered by specialist mental health trained staff, who will be able to provide advice, support and sign posting to other relevant agencies. This Urgent Mental health Support telephone line is open now 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 01752 435122 for advice and support.

St Luke’s Virtual Clergy Wellbeing Programme

This course was written by St Luke’s for Clergy but is helpful for everyone. It is split into sections which cover the effects of trauma on congregations, how to recover, the importance of caring for yourself and how we can lean on our relationship with God to support us:

Supporting people with dementia

There are five great resources in this Alzheimer’s Society document on supporting people with dementia:

  • become a Dementia Friend (online videos / webinars)
  • communication approaches
  • ideas to help people with dementia keep busy / active
  • support/advice helpline for family/carers
  • mutual support online forum for family/carers

Marriage Support

Most married couples would admit that lockdown has moments of delight and challenge. Even the best of marriages benefit from input and investment. Both Care for the Family and Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB) are offering their marriage courses free online at the moment, so now is the perfect time to give your marriage some love!
