Domestic Abuse Awareness Seminars March 2019
On 13th November 2018 our Diocesan Synod approved adoption of the Diocesan Domestic Abuse Policy statement.
The adoption of this policy forms part of our programme to raise awareness of domestic abuse which will culminate in the delivery of three domestic abuse awareness seminars across the diocese in March 2019.
“Domestic abuse is a hidden danger in relationships and affects a great many people, including those in our churches and communities. Evidence tells us that it is widespread and difficult to talk about. These vital seminars will enable all of us to grow in our awareness, to spot the signs, and to enable a supportive response. I will be attending on one of the days and look forward to seeing you there. I highly commend this training opportunity to you.”
The Rt Revd Jackie Searle, Bishop of Crediton.
The seminars will be a unique opportunity for clergy and safeguarding representatives to hear from experts and explore how our churches and our faith can play a part in preventing and challenging abuse and responding well to those who choose to seek help from us. They will take place as follows and advance booking is required. Please use the form at the bottom of this page.
- Monday 18th March, 10:00am – 4:00pm at Hannah’s at Seale Hayne, Newton Abbot
- Tuesday 19th March, 10:00am – 4:00pm at the Boniface Centre, Crediton
- Wednesday 20th March, 10:00am – 4:00pm at Hatherleigh Community Centre
The Diocese has been working with the Christian charity Restored to bring the domestic abuse awareness programme together. Restored is an international Christian Alliance working to transform relationships and end violence against women. Restored recently commissioned a research team of academics at the University of Coventry and the University of Leicester to survey churchgoers in Cumbria for a ground-breaking study of domestic abuse.
