Make a real difference – help create safe, inclusive church communities across Devon.
The Diocese of Exeter is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Safeguarding Officer to join our dynamic Diocesan Safeguarding Team. This is a meaningful opportunity to ensure churches are safe and welcoming spaces for everyone, with a particular focus on supporting vulnerable individuals.
What You’ll Do
- Lead Safeguarding Efforts: Manage safeguarding concerns and allegations of abuse against Church Officers with professionalism and care.
- Support Victims: Engage directly with victims of abuse, offering guidance and coordinating tailored support services to help them on their journey to recovery.
- Work with Perpetrators: Handle sensitive interactions with alleged perpetrators of abuse and manage convicted offenders, primarily sex offenders, to ensure their church attendance poses no risk to others.
- Provide Expert Guidance: Offer specialist advice to parishes on critical safeguarding issues such as child sexual abuse, domestic abuse, financial exploitation of adults at risk, and more.
- Collaborate Across Agencies: Contribute effectively to multi-agency meetings, working closely with Police, Probation Services, and Local Authorities to achieve safeguarding excellence.
