Director of Music/Organist
Closing date for applications: 10th August 2018
The Parish of All Saints’, Dulverton, Somerset
We seek an accomplished and mission focused musician to join our Ministry Team. We wish to enhance our choral tradition, maintaining our current repertoire of hymns and Eucharist settings, whilst exploring new music and styles of worship. Our next Director of Music will want to discuss and explore creative ways of using music for mission and have a collaborative approach within the Team, helping the parish to live and tell the story of Jesus.
We have a small, committed and enthusiastic robed adult choir who, with the leadership of the Director of Music would like to grow and develop. The choir currently don’t have any junior members and so we would like the new Director of Music to plan, form and build this missional opportunity. The organ is a resourceful 3 manual instrument, well cared for, and suitable for teaching. There is also a much-admired fine grand piano in church.
The musical life of the parish includes Sunday Services (Choral Eucharist each Sunday morning, Choral (by negotiation) Evensong each Sunday evening) special Services, Benefice Services, concerts, and weekly choir practice. There are about 4-6 weddings and 8-12 funerals each year. Remuneration for this post will be negotiable in line with those published by the RSCM. Previous post-holders have supplemented these responsibilities with school based and private instrumental teaching, and this would be available for the applicant appointed.
A supportive community of local church musicians and other musicians generally awaits. Exmoor and the surrounds boasts several accomplished choirs, including the East Devon Choral Society, the whole Exmoor geographical area comes musically alive each year with the Two Moors Festival.
