Ministry Trainee for Sherford Community Church
Salary Apprenticeship
Hours: Full-time
About Sherford Community Church
We’re an Anglican evangelical church plant in the new town of Sherford on the outskirts of Plymouth. We’re a church that prioritises Bible teaching to equip us for evangelism and discipleship, prayer and a love for the lost. We’re a growing church in a growing community with exciting opportunities ahead of us. We love to work in partnership with other Anglican evangelical churches in the local area, and we are also part of the Peninsula Gospel Partnership that joins up gospel churches across Devon and Cornwall.
The post
We’re looking to appoint a Ministry Trainee for a year-long post from September 2022. This is a full-time volunteer post. We can offer accommodation and a grant of £3600 towards living costs, as well as covering your working expenses. We anticipate that the successful applicant will need to raise a further £3000 towards living expenses.
The role
There are three parts to our apprenticeship scheme:
- Training in Bible handling and ministry skills – This will be provided through the local Peninsula Gospel Partnership training course, in addition to the oversight and support offered by the church’s own leadership team.
- Opportunities to join in the pastoral and teaching ministry of the church – This will particularly involve helping to lead and grow our children’s ministry (both on Sundays and midweek), but it could also involve leading one-to-one and small group Bible studies and leading Sunday worship.
- Opportunities to serve in practical ways, depending on your skill set – This could include helping to organise outreach events, helping with PA and livestreaming or music on Sundays, administrative support and digital ministry including our website and social media channels.
Is this for you?
We are looking for:
- A man or woman who has a living faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and a desire to serve Him in our local community
- Someone who is keen to give a year to gaining experience of full-time Christian ministry, perhaps with a view to move onto further full-time gospel ministry
- Someone who wholeheartedly accepts our core Christian beliefs, as set out in the GAFCON Jerusalem Declaration (see https://www.gafcon.org/jerusalem-2018/key-documents/jerusalem-declaration)
- Someone who is a UK citizen or who otherwise has a right to live and work in the UK, and an enhanced DBS clearance will be essential
