Organist and Worship Leader for St Mary’s Bideford

Closing date for applications: 12:00am on 1st March 2020

Interview date: Interview date: Thursday 12th March 2020

St. Mary’s is the Anglican Parish Church for Bideford, and part of the Bideford and 4 villages Mission Community.  St Mary’s is an active church of approximately 110 people at the 10 am Service on a Sunday; and 20-25 at the 8 am.  The electoral roll, as presented to the last APCM, stands at 177. The number of weddings for 2019 was 5, baptisms 20, and funerals 24.

There is a very strong sense of ‘family’ at St Mary’s and visitors speak of a warm welcome and a sense of diversity and unity. We are committed to encouraging and delivering a wide range of music from all genres.  This ‘blending’ of styles is a key objective within our Mission Action Plan to support open and accessible worship for all, and this role reports directly to the Rector and PCC.  The organist would work collaboratively with other musicians including, a worship band, a classically based Taize group, the St. Mary’s and 4 parish choirs, to deliver a range of services, including Civic, pastoral and Festival events.  You would be expected to have experience of choir directing and development.

You would be supported to develop the choral life at St. Marys’ and to explore and develop opportunities for young people such as a Junior Choir, performance opportunities for local schools and holiday clubs.

The organ is a very fine and resourceful three-manual Father Willis, which could attract a programme of recitals, concerts, etc. The post-holder should have appropriate experience, and will be encouraged to use the instrument for teaching and recital work.  You would be encouraged to develop St. Mary’s as a musical venue for the town, inviting a wide range of local and other musicians.

Remuneration in the region of £4k per annum.
