Priest-in-Charge (Team Rector Designate) St Peter’s Tiverton

Closing date for applications: 11:59pm on 31st August 2022

Interview date: 16th September 2022

Hours: Full Time

We look forward to the appointment of a gifted incumbent for these three parishes, set in the delightful Exe Valley in the heart of Devon, and comprising St Peter’s in the town centre, the historic civic parish of the town; St Andrew’s, which lies on the eastern edge of the town and is of catholic tradition; and the rural parish of St Thomas, Chevithorne with Cove, situated to the north.

These three churches each have their own distinctive character, but they are of one mind in a spirit of collaboration as they seek to serve their communities. St Peter’s is presently being substantially re-ordered, with opportunities for fresh and imaginative use of the building in worship and in the artistic and community life of the town of Tiverton.

The ideal incumbent would be:

  • a person of fresh and living faith and spirituality
  • a team player, able to lead, delegate and collaborate
  • a priest committed to a ministry of teaching and preaching, devoted to the nourishment of the community and its thoughtful reflection on the meaning of the Christian gospel in our time
  • a priest who cherishes sacramental worship and is open to fresh developments in patterns of worship
  • a person with a love of music and an appreciation of the richness of choral worship
  • an energetic and imaginative person, able to reach out to all ages, both within the church and in the local community

We can offer you:

  • a stipendiary ‘house for duty’ colleague responsible for St Andrew’s
  • strong lay support and a very efficient paid administrator
  • support from several retired clergy for your times away
  • a freshly modernised Rectory a few minutes walk from St Peter’s church
