Church celebrates the Importance of Community on Time to Talk Day 2025

Posted: 6th February, 2025

This week, church in North Devon has been raising awareness for mental health.

St Peter’s Church in Fremington has been marking Time to Talk Day, an annual mental health awareness day.

Time to Talk is run by mental health charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, and this year it takes place on the 6 February 2025.

The day is an opportunity for us all to start a conversation about mental health with our friends, families, communities and at our workplaces.

To mark the day, St Peter’s Church held a social time after their Holy Communion service to raise money for Devon Mind charity. Together they talked and looked at resources for Time to Talk Day, to create a safe space for people to talk, listen, and to open up the conversation about mental health.

They also enjoyed some delicious cakes and sweet treats, helping to raise money for the mental health charity.

The church will be continuing to champion awareness for mental health, marking Mental Health Awareness Week which takes place on the 12-18 May 2025. The theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is Community, and it will be an opportunity to reflect on how being part of a safe, positive community is vital for our mental health and wellbeing.

Teresa Warren, who helped to run the event, said, “We want to use Mental Health Awareness Week to celebrate the power and importance of community.”

Rev’d Chris Painter, Rector at St Peter’s Church Fremington, PCC members, the church congregation and architects have been busy developing designs for a larger social seating area inside the church. They hope to create a space for the community to gather and build connections.
