‘COPnes 26’ will bring churches and community together in Totnes for 2 weeks of events during the upcoming climate conference

Churches in Totnes and Bridgetown will be working with local groups and members of the community to host two weeks of events during the COP26 Climate Conference, including a 24/7 act of witness in St Mary’s, Totnes.

‘COPnes 26’ will begin on 30 October and end on 12 November.

Totnes Team Rector, Revd Fr. Jim Barlow said, “COPnes 26 is bringing together faith groups and secular groups to underline the importance of the conference and the need for action now.”

There will be a wide variety of events, including a large community gathering on All Hallow’s called Letting In The Light, followed by an all-night vigil at St Mary’s. other events will include film screenings, panel discussions, concerts and live updates from Glasgow.

“We are also encouraging people to hold the intention for the planet and humanity in prayer and meditation.”

​St Mary’s are looking for people to take part and help maintain the 24-hour witness and individuals can also offer their own events or activities.

Revd Fr. Jim Barlow said, “It has been great to see everyone coming together like this and it is really important that the church is centrally involved.”
