Devon Church teams up with Primary School to Invite Parents & Carers to ‘Have a Coffee on Us’
‘Have a coffee on us’ was the invitation given to mothers and carers recently at Sherford, the new town east of Plymouth.
Sherford Community Church’s big vision is for the town to flourish and come to know something of God’s great love: the strapline for the church is ‘Open, Generous and Engaged.’
Working in collaboration with Sherford Vale School and the House of Brews, the church wanted to treat mothers and carers this Mothering Sunday.
On Tuesday 5 March and Wednesday 6 March the interim minister at Sherford, Rev’d Greg Bakker, teamed together with Mrs Evans, Head Teacher at the school handed out cards to parents and carers of children attending the school. The cards offered the first 50 people a free coffee at local coffee shop, House of Brew.
This was a gesture to say thank you to them for all they do in bringing up and nurturing their children.
Rev’d Greg Bakker said, “It is really lovely to be part of the Sherford community and I am very much look forward to working with the school and joining in the forthcoming community activities alongside helping to nurture an open and engaged church here in Sherford.”
Mrs Susie Evans, Head Teacher said, ‘It is very important for the school and church to work together as both institutions are at the heart of the community.
“Greg is very is open and welcoming and has taken the initiative to show how thankful the community is to mothers and carers for all that they do to nurture their children.”
The owner of House of Brews coffee shop, Joanna, thought that the initiative went down really well as parents and carers could drop their children off in the morning and come in for a coffee and chat. The House of Brews serves locally roasted, organically and ethically sourced coffee.
‘Have a coffee on us’ is the first of Sherford Community Church’s initiatives this year to bless the community. On Good Friday they have a muddy church in Sherford Country Park planned, an opportunity for the church to engage further with the community.
