The diocesan education team is pleased to be welcoming a new Deputy Diocesan Director of Education in May.

Claire Platt has been a teacher in different forms for nearly 30 years and is very excited to be bringing her on the ground knowledge to the already ‘talented’ education team.

As well as being a class teacher, Claire has worked for Devon and Torbay local authorities as a national literacy consultant.

Claire then became headteacher at Collaton St Mary C of E Primary School which she says she absolutely loved. She then moved on to be Executive Head of Collaton St Mary’s and Galmpton C of E schools

Now preparing to leave her post as Director of Education for Academy for Character and Excellence, Claire said, “Part of my role has been supporting schools joining the trust who have been struggling.

“For the last almost 4 and a half years, my job has been about school improvement across the trust and that’s the bit I love and that’s why I’m looking forward to joining the diocese.

“All the schools I have worked in have been church schools and they are my first love.

“Moving to the diocese I know that the schools I look after now are still going to be looked after by the diocese.

“What I really am excited about is working with schools to support leadership in navigating this tricky world we live in. I understand what it means to lead a church school.

“It about the schools really flourishing so that the children can flourish and that comes from effective management and leadership.”

Director of Education, Sue Lockwood said, “We are delighted to be welcoming Claire to the team knowing that her expertise will enhance our work to nurture vision-inspired education, nourish personal and spiritual growth, and enable connected communities that flourish.”

Claire is a bookworm and last year she read an impressive 50 books!

In her spare time, she enjoys walking her dog, being on boats and near the water, and getting the most of her membership to the Totnes Independent Cinema.

Claire says she also like to keep friends for life and enjoys going away to visit them all over the country at weekends.
