Philip the disciple did not have all the answers about God and faith, but he still encouraged his friend Nathaniel to ‘Come and See’ for himself what it was all about (John 1:46). Will you come and join our weekend of mission, supported by Archbishop Justin Welby?
The ‘Come and See’ weekend will run from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 November 2023 (Remembrance weekend).
Archbishop Justin Welby will be taking part in a number of themed events across Devon, telling the people he meets about Jesus and why rural life, children and young people, caring for our planet and living with loss matter to Christians.
We would like churches to join in by holding a mission outreach event over the weekend. It could be within a parish, across your mission community or one single event for your deanery.
You might hold a Remembrance cream tea (Come and Remember), quiz night (Come and Quiz), community welly walk (Come and Walk), breadmaking workshop (Come and Cook), curry evening (Come and Eat), church open day (Come and Explore), silent disco (Come and Dance), churchyard treasure trail (Come and Seek) or whatever you would like to do!
These events will be aimed at people who do not normally come to church, to give them an opportunity to ‘come and see’ something of the hope we have in Jesus. Follow-up will need to to be a key part of the planning – for example, the event could include an invitation to a course exploring faith or a special service or weekly/monthly church group.
You can apply to have an evangelist from the Archbishop’s College of Evangelists to come along to your event and work with you beforehand to plan it. We also have funding of up to £100 per mission community towards the costs of an event. To find out more about this, click here.
Sharing our faith doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s as simple as saying ‘come and see’ and letting God do the rest.
