CAPTION: People are being encouraged to decorate their cars for the carol service

Churches Plan Car Park Carol Service

Posted: 10th December, 2020

Churches in East Devon are planning a Covid-safe car park Carol Service in a supermarket carpark.

The service is taking place at Tesco’s in Axminster at 4.30pm on Sunday 13 December.

People are being invited to come in cars or on foot to “sing their hearts out” in a socially-distanced way.

There will also be a prize for the best-decorated car and people are being encouraged to “wrap-up warm and bring a torch”.

The event is being organised by the Axe Valley Mission Community of eight churches, which hit the national headlines in the autumn for their drive-in Harvest service in a field.

The Team Vicar, the Rev’d Nicky Davies, said: “Following the good feedback from people who came to our drive-in Harvest, which was the brainchild of our wonderful curate Tracey Voysey, we decided to offer a similar event in Advent.

“We hope that this Car Park Carols will appeal to people in our communities here in the Axe Valley Mission Community.

“We feel that singing carols together at Christmas-time, even if in cars or physically distanced, is so important, and even more so in this difficult year.

“We pray that this will uplift people’s spirits and touch them with God‘s love.”
