Posted: 28th June, 2019

Women priests from across Devon will be processing through central Exeter this Sunday (30 June) ahead of a special service at Exeter Cathedral to celebrate 25 years of women being ordained.

The first women were ordained on 12 March 1994 following a long campaign to allow women to become priests.

Rev’d Cathy Roberts who has organised the event said: “We will be marking a milestone for women as we celebrate ordained women’s priestly ministry.

“Come along and celebrate with us as we give thanks to God for vocations realised and remember those who believed they were called by God but did not live to see their vocations fulfilled.

The Rt Rev Jackie Searle, Bishop of Crediton, who was ordained in April 1994 at St Paul’s Cathedral, said: “Please help us to celebrate and fill Exeter Cathedral this Sunday by coming to our special service to celebrate 25 years of women priests. Everyone is welcome!”

The procession starts at 3pm. The service is at 4pm.
