Holy Land trip inspires photographer turned curate
“You’ve got to imagine away a lot of the roads and the modern stuff but with a bit of effort you could put yourself back in the original place.”
Huw Riden is a former commercial photographer and member of the armed forces who was ordained in Exeter in 2017. He’s now a Curate in the Benefice of Littleham cum Exmouth with Lympstone.
In January he was among 16 curates from the Diocese of Exeter who took part in a nine day study tour of Israel and the Palestinian West Bank.
They were accompanied by Bishop Robert, Bishop Jackie and Graham Stones, the Bishop’s Chaplain.
Huw, who is also a keen biker, was inspired to use his photography skills to capture what he saw and said: “It was great to go there and see the Holy Land pretty much as the geography would have been back in the day.
“A place where Jesus walked, a place where the disciples were and where so much of the history that we are familiar with from the Bible has come from.
Huw has put together some of his favourite images into a YouTube Video.
He said the study tour added a new element and a new dimension to his faith: “When I saw the Lake of Galilee, instead of having it in my mind, I looked at the lake and thought, wow, two people walked on that!”
