New Chaplain for University of Exeter

Posted: 22nd February, 2019

The Reverend Hannah Alderson has been appointed as the University of Exeter’s Lazenby Chaplain.

Hannah is currently St. Luke’s Chaplain and Vocations Officer for the Diocese of Exeter.  In her new role she will head up a reconfigured Anglican Chaplaincy Team which will work across both university sites in Exeter (Streatham and St Luke’s).  Hannah will also be a member of the Multifaith Chaplaincy Team.

Hannah, said: “Over the last two-and-a-half years I’ve had the privilege of meeting lots of people exploring their vocation. It is inspiring to hear stories of God’s call, and to accompany people as they prepare to do all sorts of wonderful things for God.

“I am really excited to be moving into University Chaplaincy full time. The University has a very special place in my heart, and especially its Chapels. Of course, my vocations work doesn’t end here, I am looking forward to working with students and staff as they continue to discern God’s call on their lives.”

The Rev Preb. Philip Sourbut, Director of Mission and Ministry for the diocese, said: “I will be very sad to see Hannah leave the role of Vocations Officer for the diocese where she has made a significant contribution, but we look forward to continuing to work closely with her in her new role as Lazenby Chaplain”

Hannah has an MTh in Theology from Oxford and a BA from Exeter.  Prior to becoming the St. Luke’s Chaplain, Hannah was a curate in Bridgwater in the Diocese of Bath and Wells.  She brings many gifts to her new role.

Hannah will take up her post on 1 June 2019 and will be licensed by Bishop Jackie, the Bishop of Crediton, in the Mary Harris Chapel at the University on a date to be arranged.
