North Devon Church Takes Aid Directly To Ukraine Border
A team from a North Devon church has used their community minibus to take aid to the Ukrainian border.
Following a public appeal for medical, baby and personal items St Brannocks Church Braunton’s minibus, leading a convoy of three vehicles, left St Brannocks Rooms at 10am on Monday March 28 for the Ukrainian/Hungarian border arriving at Kisvarda the following evening.
It was originally intended that only the minibus would make the trip but the the response was so overwhelming that it was accompanied by two vans.
The following morning the vehicles were unloaded at a warehouse, owned by a member of Kisvarda Rotary Club by arrangement with the Rotary Club of Braunton Caen.
The contents were re-packed and transported to Uzhorod just over the Ukrainian border by container lorry and Transit van.
The minibus remained in Hungary for the next six days offering assistance where needed being registered as a Red Cross vehicle.
During this period the vehicle transported urgently needed food and transferred refugees from the border to various parts of Hungary.
The minibus arrived back in Braunton on Tuesday evening having travelled 3707 miles.
