CAPTION: Church volunteers provide activities, hot meals and food packages for families over the summer holiday

Over 100 volunteers host ‘Feast of Fun’ to bring joy to families in Plymouth this summer

Over 100 volunteers across Plymouth are working hard for the TPT families

Feast of Fun events are taking place over the summer holidays across the city of Plymouth, providing free holiday clubs for children, hot meals and family food packages.

These events will be hosted by a total of 24 churches spread over Plymouth each with a group of hands-on volunteers.

Churches include St. Pancras Church, St Budeaux Parish Church, St Peters & St Francis, St Edwards and St Mary’s Church.

After only being able to offer take home food parcels (“Feast of Fun @ home”) over the past year, this year the churches have opted to host ‘hybrid’ events, whereby they have been able to organize fun activities, held outdoors, and will be offering food (either basic refreshments, or cooked lunches), together with take home food parcels for families.

One volunteer at Derriford United Reform Church said, “It is wonderful to see children in the church again.”

As well as enjoying fun activities, children will have a hot meal provided by the volunteers

Churches have planned for activities in all weathers including ‘Cake and Crafts’, scavenger hunts, a bouncy castle, ‘Fun on the Green!’ and many more to make sure families have a place to relax and have fun.

Transforming Plymouth together is hoping that their ‘Feast of Fun’ initiative will touch at least 250 families who need support in Plymouth.

Churches are making provisions for emergency supplies should a family need them

Some of the churches are also in the process of establishing community larders or pantries, in order to provide families with ‘emergency’ supplies when required.

Dawn Long from Transforming Plymouth Together said, “Feast of Fun is a blessing to many families this summer, after the tough year we have all experienced. My sense is that families really need this outlet, as there hasn’t been much fun recently.”

Food parcels were a life-line for some over 2020, but the need is still there post-lockdown and TPT won’t stop

Transforming Plymouth Together (TPT) charity, which organises Feast of Fun, delivered nearly 90,000 meals and supported churches in building relationships with the families during the pandemic.

Now that restrictions have lifted, the charity has not lost drive for helping families in need.
