Who is Jesus Christ?
Today many people may not realise that Jesus Christ is a real figure in history. The records of his life are in the four Gospels of the New Testament but there are also references to his life and death in a history of the Jewish people by Josephus written in AD93. A Roman historian Tacitus also mentions him in AD 110 and possibly the earliest reference is from Mara bar Serapion in AD73.
Jesus lived for about 33 years in the early years of the 1st century AD. For most of his life he worked as a carpenter in Nazareth, a busy town in northern Israel.
In the final three years of his life he took to the road as a prophet, teacher and healer, attracting both followers and enemies. Ordinary people gathered in large numbers to hear his words and seek healing.
The life and death of Jesus Christ made an impact on the lives of the people around him in the New Testament. Today, 2,000 years later, his life and teachings are still raising questions and changing lives.
