The Matthew 25 Fund

The Matthew 25 Fund offers micro-grants of up to £3,000 to support new and innovative mission projects across the Diocese of Exeter. Inspired by our vision to Pray, Grow and Serve, it provides seed funding to help turn missional ideas into sustainable ministries and, where possible, new worshipping communities.

Who Can Apply?

Applications are invited from:

  • Clergy involved in or graduated from the Exeter Leadership Development Programme (ELDP)
  • Commissioned lay leaders, including Lay Leaders of Mission and Growing Faith Leaders

At the heart of the Matthew 25 Fund is a commitment to investing in people just as deeply as we invest financially in new projects. We want this grant to act as ‘wind in the sails’ for your new worshipping community, which is why applications are open to mission communities working with a Lay Commissioned Leader or an Incumbent who has completed the ELDP. We believe that the most sustainable, life-giving growth happens when leaders are supported in developing themselves at the same time as they embarking on new things. Think of the disciples being called by Jesus to accompany him in mission, whilst still learning about who He is.

When stepping out to start a new missional venture, our hope is to encourage churches to look toward the future with longevity in mind—planting a seed that is nurtured to grow into a mighty oak, rather than a flower that blooms for just a single season.

What Can Be Funded?

Funding can be used for:

  • Equipment
  • Missional resources
  • Space for ministry
  • Launch events and pilot projects

Funding cannot be used for salaries, routine building maintenance, or to replace regular parish income.

What We’re Looking For

Projects should support one or more of the Diocese’s missional priorities:

  • Missional leadership
  • Missional DNA
  • Children and young people
  • A mixed ecology of church

The Application Process

  1. Discuss your idea with your Local Mission Enabler or Archdeacon.
  2. Submit a short application with a simple budget and PCC endorsement.
  3. Applications are reviewed by the Archdeaconry Mission Co-ordination Panel.

The fund encourages creativity, experimentation and learning as we seek new ways to share the love of God and grow Christian communities.
