Funeral Authority

Authorisation for an LLM to bury the dead or read the burial service before, at or after a cremation is sought by the incumbent. An application form is available from the LLM Administrator. In the request the incumbent confirms that the LLM is adequately prepared to undertake this ministry and will receive ongoing support, monitoring and review while undertaking it.

An LLM with funeral authority can only exercise this ministry with the goodwill of the bereaved family and at the invitation of the incumbent.

An LLM without funeral authority is still able to:

  • Offer pastoral visiting and support to the bereaved
  • Take part in a funeral service alongside an LLM with funeral authority or a member of the clergy

Please contact the LLM administrator for information on applying for funeral authority.
