Core Pathway: Foundations
The Foundations safeguarding module is required for all volunteers and paid staff who work with children and/or vulnerable adults. It is also required for all PCC members and Churchwardens. Other roles may also require Foundations. More information on the required attendees for Foundations can be found in the Safeguarding Learning and Development Framework – Section 3.2. The Foundations module is renewed every three years where it is the highest level required for the role. The module is provided online through the National Safeguarding Training Portal and can be worked through by yourself in the comfort of your home or office workspace.
The Basic Awareness module should have been completed prior to completing Foundation level in the first instance. Basic Awareness does not then need to be renewed if Foundation level is the highest level required for the role. It is good practice however to periodically re-visit the Basic Awareness module.
Completing the Course
To undertake the Foundations module go to the National Safeguarding Training Portal using the Quick Link below. If you do not already have an account you will need to create a user account for the Portal. Once logged in, navigate to Courses / Core Pathways / Foundations. Once the course has been completed you will find your certificate under Records / My Training Records.
You can allow your Parish Safeguarding Representative to view your record directly by entering the email address that corresponds with the profile of the person you would like to view your training records – i.e. the email address that they use themselves to access the Portal. This should be entered in a box at the bottom of the ‘edit profile‘ screen, entitled ‘Local reporting (allow a user with the following email address to view my training record)’.
The Diocesan team are unable to help with access issues to the Portal. If you experience problems logging into the National Safeguarding Training Portal please send an email to the National Safeguarding Team Training Helpdesk. There is also a helpful FAQ page on the National Safeguarding Training Portal website.
