Safeguarding Training

Safeguarding training is required for all those who carry out paid or voluntary work on behalf of the Church of England, Diocese of Exeter and Parish PCC’s. It must be renewed every three years to the highest Core Pathway level required for the role. In addition to Core Pathways, other training modules must be renewed every three years where applicable to the role. These include Domestic Abuse and Safer Recruitment and People Management.

Safeguarding training requirements are set out in the Safeguarding Learning and Development Framework, which is issued under Section 5A of the Safeguarding and Clergy Discipline Measure 2016, as amended by the Safeguarding (Code of Practice) Measure 2021. As a ‘Code of Practice’ church officers (church staff and volunteers) are required to comply with the code.

Training is undertaken online via the National Safeguarding Training Portal and is set out under three separate pathways: Core Pathways, Issued Based Pathways and Toolkit Pathways.
