What are parochial fees?

Parochial fees are the set charges for services such as weddings, funerals, and burials. These fees help support both the local parish and the wider Church, ensuring that our buildings, ministry, and pastoral care remain available for everyone at life’s most important moments. They also contribute to the ongoing life of the church in the community, helping us stay open, welcoming, and ready to serve the people of Devon with joy.

Fees Process

The Church of England reviews and sets the annual fees each year (click here for the full overview or the summary), so it’s helpful to take a moment to look through their latest overview and guidance, along with the Diocese of Exeter’s guidance document too.

Parochial fees should be paid into our dedicated fees bank account either quarterly or, if it suits you better, monthly. (Just a reminder: this is different from the Common Fund account.)

When making a payment, please use the following reference format so we can match it easily: fees Z code + the period the payment relates to, for example Z000 Q1 2026. The period may not always be the same as the date you make the payment, so noting it clearly is a big help.

Each time you send a payment, please also send us a completed copy of one of our fees sheets (click here for PDF or Excel versions). Using our templates ensures we receive all the details we need for accurate records and our annual audits. You’re welcome to email the sheet to us, or print and post it—whichever is easiest for you.
