A defining seminar heralding the introduction of the Diocesan programme to raise awareness of Domestic Abuse.

Keynote Speaker: Dr Rebecca Barnes (University of Leicester)
New research into the prevalence of domestic abuse amongst churchgoers shows that one in four people have experienced abuse in their current relationship. A research team of academics at the University of Coventry and Dr Rebecca Barnes from the University of Leicester working on behalf of the Christian charity Restored, surveyed churchgoers in Cumbria for this ground-breaking study of domestic abuse. https://restored.contentfiles.net/media/resources/files/churches_web.pdf

Dr Rebecca Barnes has been a Lecturer in Criminology in the Department of Criminology at the University of Leicester since January 2013, having previously been Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Derby. She currently convenes the MSc campus-based Criminology programmes, including MSc degrees in Criminology, Applied Criminology, Clinical Criminology, and Terrorism, Security and Policing. Carolina Kuzaks-Cardenas is the Office and Training Manager for Restored. She is passionate about working to make a difference in people’s lives and particularly in challenging oppression, injustice and inequality. She has ten years experience in the charitable sector in the UK, having previously worked for Latin America Women’s Aid. She has a Masters degree in NGO and Development Management. Carolina is a member of St Mary’s Church, Hampton, where she plays a role in their leadership.
